SIGURD THE DRAGON SLAYER (Inquire for price)
This artwork, carved in bas relief illustrates the legend of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer - an ancient tale rooted in medieval Scandinavian tradition. At the center, Sigurd and his brother are shown plotting their quest around a campfire, while horses stand tethered to the Tree of Life in the background. The lower pandel depicts the brothers forging a powerful new sword. Above, Sigurd is seen triuphing over the dragon. To the right, his fate takes a tragic turn as he is struck down by an enemy, and his spirit is shown entering the other world. The design of this piece draws inspiration from a twelfth-century carved wooden door pandel from the Hylestad Stave Church in Norway. Built in the late twelfth or early thirteenth century, the church featured detailed carvings that vividly portrayed scenes from Sigurd's epic saga.
