IN THE TIME OF MYTHS, STORIES AND LEGENDS
This round carved disc tells multiple Norse stories of their ancient homelands and journeys into the New World, leaving a lasting imprint on the Arctic. Before the arrival of Christianity, the Norse practiced shamanism, believing in the power of the Spirit of Place. Their worldview closely resembled that of Inuit, with whom they interacted in northern Greenland. The sculpture features scenes from everyday life, as well as Ragnarok - the series of events and catastrophes that ultimately culminate in a final battle between the gods and the demons and giants. In the center, a man and woman are shown being taken to the Tree of Life, escaping the destruction of Ragnarok and the end of the world.
