Beowulf is a Norse epic about a legendary Swedish hero, who sails to Denmark to help King Hrothgar. Hrothgar's great hall, Heorot, is under attack by Grendel, a jealous monster who kills Hrothgar's warriors and terrorizes the land for twelve years. Beowulf arrives with fourteen warriors, is welcomed with a feast, and prepares for battle. That night Grendel attacks. Beowulf confronts him and rips off his arms, fatally wounding the creature. Hrothgar rewards Beowulf with gifts, and peace returns to the kingdom. Beowulf's legend begins to grow.
